Video Capture question

This relates to capturing the NTSC feed from a security video camera using a video card with capture capabilities (e.g. Radeon 8500 AIW or similar).

For my application, full motion video isn't necessary, but good resolution is. In order to conserve hard drive space, I was wondering if it is typically possible to configure the # of frames captured per second, say to 8 FPS instead of the default (25 ~ 30-ish) for full motion? Or are you typically stuck with configuring only the resolution (or bitrate)?

Some capture programs do allow you to specify a custom framerate. If you use an ATI AIW or VIVO card like you suggested, ATI's MMC application includes motion triggered and time lapse settings for security cameras that may work good for your situation.
