Just wondering which is best for capturing a signal from a mini-DV camera... something like a AIW Radeon, or something like a ATI TV Wonder or possibly other strictly TV tuner cards? I'd figure from a usage perspective the AIW Radeon would be the simplest, but I can't help but figure that a capture card would offer better quality.

TIA :)

Doesn't your camera have a USB or Firewire port? Wouldn't it give you the best quality to actually upload directly?

I was just about to post the same thing. Firewire will be superior to any analog capturing.

It's actaully not my camera, I'll have to find out.

For now, let's assume it must use an RCA or SVideo signal as input as opposed to a digital means of transfer ;)

It would be kind of dumb to make a mini-DV camera and give it no means of off-loading the digital video contents.
The camera will have a firewire or USB port.

Wew who first post,
With my Mini DV camcorder Canon ZR50 I capture using a firewire cable. I do not think I can use the USB for capturing. I do not use any special capture card as my Chaintech Mb has a firewire port. You can check out some of my video's at http://ric.ipfox.com home page and VIDZ tab..
nothing special.. just me and some friends being stupid. I'm just now figuring out Adobe Premiere Pro.. which I must say is more difficult to figure out than the previous edition. plus it seems that the video is more jumpy. Maybe its me who knows.. On the site (Lita Gets Sloshed) is the only video I've done with Premiere pro So you decide which is better quality. Most of them are pretty funny. and the quality is pretty decent. enjoy..

I'm not sure why you would want to use something other than Firewire for uploading your video to your computer.. like it was said earlier it defeats the point of getting a mini DV.

If you ask me it's all about the capturing software you use. any device that you plug into wether it be analog or digital wont be any good unless you use good software.

Oh I go by the nickname Killer on mine and my friends website. Please no flaming my first post.

Peace out
