Hi,

I have a Gigacube ATI 9600 Pro 128 Mb VIVO video card. I have a Sony VCR (VHS system), and I'll buy some cable to connect the two pieces.

I would like to ask some questions:

[1] My 9600 Pro comes with a cable, which connects to a "round" type of connector in the graphical board (what is the name of that "round" connector?). At the other side I have some 4 cables. I do need to find a SCART to output the VCR to one of that cables, right? (what a confused question! sorry my bad explaining english)

[2] What video capture software to use? The graphic board came with Cyberlink's Power Director Pro 2.5 ME. Is it any good? Should I try some other software? I just need to pass some VHS tapes to digital format (recorded from TV and specially those old family videos) ... and save them in CD's. No big edition thing, except to take one comercial ad or two ...

Thanks

The round connector you are referring to should be the S-video connector.

Is this an AIW card or just a 9600pro?

It's a regular 9600 Pro 128Mb VIVO, it is not a All-In-Wonder card.

At least for NTSC VIVO cards, you just connect the composite (RCA) video-out jack on the VCR to the composite (often red) RCA on the dongle / box for the video card. If your VCR is new enough to have a round multipin S-Video output connector then you attach to that instead.

For audio you need a stereo-miniplug to 2-RCA cable and you attach the miniplug to the Line In of your soundcard or motherboard.

Also, this should be explained in your Friendly Manual (printed or PDF on the CD) so you might try Reading That.

Well, I tried capturing from VCR but with no luck ... any help appreciated ...

[1] I installed Catalist 3.10 drivers (22Mb) ... they installed the graphic drivers, console, and in WinXP the WDM theatre seems to be in order (in Hardwate, it has 2 entries on sound devices, I think);

[2] I installed Cyberlink's Power Director Pro 2.5 ME;

[3] I bought a cable with a SCART on one side, and a S-Video on the other ... connected the SCART part on VCR-to-TV (the normal output, since there is another SCART for a decoder box);

[4] The ATI came with a cable with a round connector to fit on the back of the board ... then on the other side I have some 4-5 connections available ... I picked the one (for input) that connects to the S-Video that cames from the VCR (through the cable I told on [3]);

[5] Entered the software specified in [2], clicked "Capture Analog Video", and all I get is a black input with some interferences on the upper lines of the screen;

[6] I switched the VCR back switch between NTSC/PAL ... no results.

Well, am I doing anything wrong? (I must be, it doesn't work ... :))

Does anyone have a clue on what's happening?

Did you hit play on the VCR?

LOL ... yes I did hit the play on the VCR :D

I heard somewhere that VCR should be on before power on the PC so the Graphic Card could detect the connection, so I even put a tape playing before turning the PC on ... still no results ... :(
