G'day all. I am having a great deal of problems capturing DV to my hard drive. Initially I thought it was the PC, then cabling and finally the camera. After trying to eliminate the problem I'm back to square one it would seem. The camera is a Sony TRV355E Digital8, the PC is a P4 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 1 x 80GB and 1 x 200GB HDD. I'm attempting capture via Firewire. The following is a summary of what's happening.
Without exception, any program I use freezes once the camera is detected. These programs include Windows Movie Maker, Ulead Video Studio 8 and Nero 6. On the odd occasion I have been able to capture footage at the highest quality but there are dropped frames every 5 - 7 seconds. The CPU usage seems to run high (90-95%) but I assume that is to be expected when dealing with large volumes of data. I thought the Firerwire cable may have been damaged and purchased a new one but still the same story. I have had the camera checked out by a technician but nothing was found to be wrong. I am at the stage now where there is nothing left to query and thought you guys might be able to help. I have Googled for an answer but advice seems to be pretty thin on the ground. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
