I want to build a dvr. I was thinking of getting a Hauppauge WinTV card. My only question is the remote. This particular model doesn't come with a remote. Can you use any remote with it? Like a remote that has a usb receiver? Or do you have to have a remote that actually changes the channel on the tuner?

May want to spend a little more for a retail Hauppauge card that includes the remote.

Well said eplebnista

Your out of luck, you should have done with eple is saying. See if you can RMA , and gl

Arrrrrrrrg. Do you even comprehend what you read or do you just pick out key phrases? He hasn't bought the card yet.

OP, generally the remotes don't actually change the channel on the card, but instead are just a standard USB remote that instructs the software to change the channel. The remote that comes with the tuner works well with Hauppauge's software and I believe it also works with Windows Media Center. If you're using WMC though, you should be able to use any WMC-compatible remote.

Is there a major difference between the cards and USB devices? Maybe a USB-TV device would work for the OP.
