Basically im looking for a cheap (under $80) Video Capture card, just something simple so i can capture games of Halo 2 every now and then (but i would like decent quality at least)...

anyone have any reccomendations?

also, on average, how much space does a 10min capture take up on a hard drive?

thanks

To save games, you need software, not hardware, you can get that for $50 to $200 depending on where you look.

Set dual screen output on your video card and have both screens display the same content.

Of course I am referring to Monitor output for output 1 (DVI or VGA)
For Output 2 if you have a SVHS output on the card enable that as the secondary.

You may have to play the game at 800x600 or 1024x768 on most cards.

BUY the gateway DVD recorder at compgeeks for 99.00

People ask me about recording video all the time. The easiest method is a cheap DVD recorder. Unless you recording HD get a DVD recorder you will get more use out of it and you can always take the DVD and put it into your PC and edit it from there. Even the wife can use the DVD recorder. For HD get the ATI HDTV wonder for around 99-120.00

Ok, im kinda getting what your saying

so if im playing Halo 2 on my xbox, how would i use the dvd recorder?
the method you described above wouldnt work for a video card, as the S-Video is output only (that, and im playing Halo 2 off the xbox, not the computer anyways)

Run the Svideo out to the Svideo in on the DVD Recorder. Then the Svideo out to the TV.

Or

Some TV's have Svideo out. Run that to your DVD recorder. Leave the x-box connection alone.

or

If you are running your x-box from S-video to a stereo reciever connect the DVD recorder to the VCR In/Out connections on the receiver.

or

Split the video output and run 1 to the TV and the other to the DVD recorder.

Either way DVD recorder is your solution with the least headaches.

yes, i can see the functionality of the dvd recorder (and i could find other uses for it)

but, just to clarify things, this is how i run my xbox

I play my xbox in my room with my computer, so its easier to use XBC, and because of this thier is no tv in my room. Since i dont have a tv in my room, i use my LCD screen (from my computer), along with a VGA convertor, to play Halo 2 on my pc's LCD screen.

now that you know the setup, what would you advise?

You could use a PCI TV card instead of the VGA converter, plug the Xbox into the SVideo input of it, and thus run the console output through the computer. That'll let you record, snapshot, and of course play. TV card availability depends mostly on where in the world you are.

No they don't. You'll run a separate 3.5mm standard audio wire into the TV card.

hmm, that could work also, that sounds like the best bet

I'm wanting to do something similar by capturing video from my gaming computer into a second "capture" computer. I've been doing this successfully at 640x480 but I'm wondering if I can do the same thing for 1024x768 by purchasing some hardware? What hardware would I need? Would that ATI HDTV Wonder card work for something like that?
