Can anybody recommend a good PCI video capture card? I don't necessarily want to watch TV or record shows on my computer, I just want to connect my VCR, capture some old VHS tapes and then burn them to DVD. Many thanks.

What kind of quality do you want ? ie. some of the low end products drop frames.
Do you want an all-around video card that does video capture ? ie Ati AIW based card.

Also what are the specs of your computer ? Proc/mem disk storage ...

Jose

I can't recommend anything as I'm in the market for one myself but I'll say @ this point from what I've read & gathered around the web, the Compro VideoMate TV Gold is what I'll probably get if I don't find anything better @ the "around $50" price range.

EDIT: Meant Compro VideoMate TV Gold Plus & NM what I said above, will wait and see how the TV Gold Plus II is received once it's released in the U.S.

Hi Jose,

My computer is still in the design stage, but right now I'm looking at an Athlon 3200+, 1 GB of RAM and tons of hard drive space.

The ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT seemed like a good bet until I saw the specs on refresh rate. I don't understand why, but it can only do 2048x1536 at 60Hz instead of 85Hz like some of the other cards. I want high resolution and high refresh for digital photography. The 9800Pro AIW will do the higher refresh rates, but that's a lot of money and probably more card than a non-gamer needs.

What do you think?
