Video Capture Card questions.

I just bought a JVC MiniDV, and want to buy a video capture card. My purpose is capture the video from the tape and convert it to DIVX or XVID. There is no IEEE1394 card in my computer. I don't know what kind of video capture card is fit for me and whether I can bought a TV tuner card to implement the job. My budget is no more than $100. Thanks a lot.

This is a no-brainer. The only way to go here is with a Firewire connection (IEEE1394) from your miniDV camera to the computer. Get a cheap Firewire card or even a SB Audigy. It'll be cheaper than an analog video capture card plus you will be staying digital.

Pauli is right. Get yourself a Firewire card. Stay away from any video capture card. You'll get a better result if you stick with DV -> firewire card -> then encode to divx/xvid.

Unless you also want a capture/tuner card. The ATI AIW Radeon 8500DV has firewire, along with just about every other vid connection possible. 😉
