Video Capture card advise

I've got some parts sitting around and decided to start a new project. I want to get a black desktop case and make an audio video computer and put it in with my component stereo. I want it to: play MP3's, play video clips, and record video clips. So far I have a spare athlon 500, motherboard, and dvd player. Besides the case, I would get a wireless mouse and keyboard. So that leaves the video capture card. Any advise on a decent not to expensive one?

Also, can I capture the video and write it over my lan to a remote hard drive? Would wireless be fast enough or would I need 10/100 baseT?

Any other thoughts?
