I neeed 65 foot component cables to go from a hdtv switcher to a hdtv plasma. Do I have to get a 65 foot cable? Or can I use barrel connectors?
Thanks,
Kishan

wassup fellow shah. 65ft is a lot of cable....i've never seen that much retail. you may have to buy high quality cable in bulk.

You wouldn't want to use barrel connectors; I don't think those are suitable for video use and I've never seen equipment use them for anything other than low-voltage power or non-critical low-frequency signals.

You could always use RG-6 (or RG-59) cable and terminate it yourself with BNCs or whatever other type of connectors your equipment uses.

if u get a high grade coax it will generally be better than something u buy. i used to work for a home theatre installer and he always used coax for component cables. i'm not too sure on the grade and stuff, but 65ft is a pretty long distance so im not sure about that.

my decoder ring is in the cleaners...so I didnt understand the first part of that, but yes rg6 will work just fine. Its what we use at work when we dont feel like writing off hundreds of dollars worth of cables when we are putting together a new display.

It'll be decent...you have lots of ways to do this. you can go to a local A/V store and get a non-Monster cable like IXOS and have the length custom made. Or, you could get it custom made online at a place like bluejean cables or heartland cables. OR, you could take the same amount of money, buy the die(s), crimper, etc., and build your own cables, also leaving you with the means to build any other RCA cable you'll need in the future...just use a good Belden or Canare like the other online custom shops.

65 feet is a long distance though man.

yeah I'm working as a home theater installer, and usually i do just a/v hookup. He had the BNC connectors on his plasma as well as rca component connectors, but has a hughes directv hd receiver and a sony progressive scan dvd player. The guy hooked it up to an old Marantz receiver-with composite cable-then out to the tv with single coax with f-connector! Obviously it looks horrible. So I suggested upgrade the old marantz to a new yamaha which had hdtv in and hdtv monitor out. Then we have to run 65 feet of component cables from the yamaha hdtv monitor out to the tv. What should I do?
Thanks for all your replies!
