my cousin lives in that city, it's really not that bad. Anyways, most of rural China is comparable to that except that the inside is usually much better.

It doesn't look so bad, actually. When I visited my mother's village in China several years ago, it looked very very similar to that. The doors were planks of wood and the key was one of those 6-inch long keys you see in movies set in historic times. But they had electricity, a telephone, TV. Water was usually fetched in pails, but the neighboring house had running water. Until recently, my grandmother used to still live there.
