Video based home security system

I'm looking to put together a video based home security system. Here's what I think I want...

1. Two cameras to start with the potential of going to four

2. Motion detection to trigger recording of audio and video

3. Ability to send email/text message to alert me to a motion detection

4. Ability to record the video from both cameras and possibly four cameras

5. Ability to send a portion of the video offsite so that if the BG's find the security system and remove/destroy there would still be video in an offsite location.

So, in practice, the cameras could be sitting there doing nothing until a motion detector is triggered at which point an alert is emailed/texted to me, the DVR begins recording from one or both cameras, and some of the video is sent, via the internet, to an offsite location for redundancy.

In fact, it might be even better if the system was constantly recording to DVR so that if the motion detector goes off you could have access to video for some time BEFORE the motion detector is triggered and for some time after the motion detector stops seeing activity.

The offsite storage is perhaps the tricky part -- any ideas here?

I should mention that I have cable based internet, a wifi (g/n) router with 4 10/100/1000 baseT so I have a constant internet connection and can use either LAN or wifi based connection. I also have some older laptops that I could make into a DVR but I'd prefer a system that did not require so much tweaking.

So, any pointers to systems that can do some/most/all of this? I am capable of doing a little VB programming
