Video and mouse lockup

Just purchased a Radeon 9600 PRO to replace my GeForce2 GTS card. *See Note at the bottom.
I tried my best to follow the instruction described by Tour Guide in his post and uninstalled the GeForce2 card first, rebooted into safe mode (whereupon MS XP promptly reinstalled the card again). Then uninstalled it AGAIN, ran driver cleaner 2.6 to clean out all the nvidia stuff and then finally installed the Radeon card.
After installing the Radeon drivers which came on the CD-ROM, I installed the latest ATI drivers which I downloaded from ATI's site.

Mostly things went well except for:

Since then, I've had the PC lockup twice (and it's only been a few hours). The display simply stops dead. No action. Can't even ctrl-alt-del. Have to hard-reboot. :(

Second, the mouse keeps stopping.
It's a logitech wireless optical mouse (and keyboard). I've reinstalled the latest mouse software and done a re-connect on it but it keeps stopping.
When it stops, the buttons still work. And clicking a button will start the mouse moving again. This happens every time I let the mouse sit still for a while. If I keep moving it, everything is fine. But as soon as I stop moving it, I have to click a button to get it to move again.
(note: it may or may not be relevant that I had to move the PC to another room in the house today as well but it's got all the same pieces as before)

I ran driver cleaner once again just to see if anything showed up but it didn't find anything.
My system is:

Win XP Home SP 1
shuttle ak31 v3 kt266a mobo
AMD xp1600 cpu
512 mb ram
logitech wireless mouse and keyboard
DVD-ROM drive
CD-RW drive

Many thanks for your suggestions in advance.

*Note: My thanks to the folks who posted about finding the Radeon 9600 PRO at Best Buy disguised as a Radeon 9600 SE. I searched all the boxes in the store and managed to find one with the UPC code mentioned in the post and sure enough, when I opened the box it was a 9600 PRO! Thanks!

Oh PLEASE! That's a totally drastic solution to be used when all other options have been exhausted. Aren't there any other suggestions?
I have reformatted this damn machine due to drive failures 3 times in the last 6 months and I REALLY don't want to do that again. It means many hours of re-installation!
There have got to be a few things I can try before resorting to that option!

Well a system Restore to the time before you installed your Nvida Driver may work other then that sorry that?s how the cookie crumbles !!!

I tried Everything to get the thing 2 work and in the end a format was the only thing that worked ! you should do it sooner rather then later save time trying 2 fix it and find out if its faulty or not so you can promptly take the card back without any hassle.

If you want to try playing around with older drivers. Turn fast writes off and check bios AGP settings make sure AGP4x is on but in the end all this playing around is wasting time when you could be using it 2 format .... because its a new card you cant be 100% sure its stable and its not faulty unless u test it in another computer thats why i suggested formatting.

I just searched the registry for nvidia. And I'm finding things in there!
Isn't the driver cleaner supposed to clean that up?
And yes I know that format may solve the problem. Just hoping I could try a few things first.
