I just picked up the 8400 deal that everyone got in on.

My questions:

1) I am going to get rid of the X300SE and pick something else up. Should I get the X700 Pro, the X800XL, or the BFG 6600GT OC? Games I would play with this would be Counterstrike: Source on a 2005 fpw. I want to play at 1680x1050.

2) Memory question: It comes with 2x256DDR2 memory. I want to upgrade. SHould I upgrade to 1GB total (2 more 256 DDR2 sticks) or is it worth it to get (2x512 DDR2 sticks). Is their a major difference between 1GB and 1.5GB? Also it came with the 400mhz memory. Can i get 533mhz memory and will that 533mhz memory run at the 400mhz speed.

3) HD question. I currently have an IDE HD. If I use one of those IDE to SATA adapters will I lose anything?

1) X800XL
2) 1 GB total will be plenty for at least a year.
3) No, it should work fine.

you will be best with the 6600gt...it wont play it at that uber high resolution (well it might...i dunno) but you realllly dont need that. 12x10 is fine, plus the 6600gt has shader model 3.0 where as any ati card does not (meaning the 6600gt will be better for future games)

get 1.5gb ram, and a 6600gt...you will be happy.

Thank you all. I will get the X800XL and probably will stick with the ide HD until I need to add another optical drive.
