Video: Analog to Digital (Hi8 to PC) advice

I have an old Sony analog camcorder using Hi8 tapes. I want to convert those tapes to digital. I am currently looking at the Canopus converter. Any suggestions on this product or advice on another product?

Thanks!

Do you have another digital camcorder? I was in the same situation as you. I used analog camcorder -> digital camcorder as passthrough -> dv avi file on computer.

I have the Canopus ADVC-110 and a S-VHS VCR with an adapter tape.

Process went relatively well but took forever. I had all kinds of black level issues that took me hours to understand. Moving from analog->digital can be very easy if you don't care about the quality but I only wanted to do it once.

I do have a digital camcorder. I'll look into that. Maybe the $250 I was going to spend on ADVC-100 is better spent elsewhere 🙂

There are advantages to using the ADVC... including audio syncing and higher quality analog->digital conversion.
