Video adapter not detected on laptop

Hello,

I recently upgraded from WindowsXP Home to Pro version on my laptop. However, the video card isn't being detected by Windows so my resolution/refresh rate is set at a maximum of 1024x768 instead of 1280x800.
Under device manager, there is no display adapter information available, and it doesn't even have the icon.
But, in the display properties, the video adapter just has "<unavailable> and the adapter properties has "VgaSave."

I tried reinstalling the drivers from the manufacturer's CD but it keeps failing because it claims that I need to install under vga. I then have trouble booting into safe mode.

Specs:
Mobile AMD Athlon64 3200
512MB RAM
Mobility Radeon 9600 64MB

Anyone can help me?
Or refer me to a site that has answers?

Thanks

What kind of laptop (brand) is it? Have you tried installing the latest driver's from the manufacturer's web stite instead of the CD?

emachines m6809.
I tried their website but the site just goes in a loop. hehe
I clicked on the download link from the support site, then it asks me to accept some of their terms&conditions.
I accepted and it put me back to the support site.
