I would maybe start around 44psi front, 40psi rear, chalk your tires, and drop pressure if you're not rolling your tires all the way to the edge of the tread. When you check/add/change tire pressure, do it all consistently, i.e. always when cold, or always when hot (preferable). My habit is to check/adjust right after my run until they're dialed in.

BTW, all seasons can be fun, I watched Black2NA smoke STis and WRXs that had sticky tires with JLee's FXT on 700 treadwear crappy all-seasons.
 
An NSX would be wild overkill for an auto-x car.

oh of course. NSX wouldn't be for autocross, just because i've always dreamed of owning one.

buying a dedicated track car would be a setback on the NSX fund

yeah, i feel like i lost a lot of speed on some of the tighter turns. a slower entry in those cases would probably have lead to a faster exit into the next straight

When in doubt, slow in fast out :sneaky:

Well, there's nothing like getting what you want, and an NSX would be a sweet ride.
 
I tried auto-X once. running the track a few times, rolled up one of my front rims =( Guess Al alloy wasn't meant to handle the tight turns.

Uh... what? Except that nearly every auto-x car uses aluminum alloy wheels... Your tire pressures were probably way too low.

Yeah.. that doesn't seem right at all. I've never seen that happen and 90% of cars are on alloy wheels..

it could have been a bent or otherwise leaking rim that caused the tire to lose pressure under heavy cornering, eventually causing it to roll over.
 

Because n/a they are very competitive in their class and incredibly reliable, turbo or s/c they are less competitive in their class and less reliable. Power isn't such a huge thing in auto-x, it's fun to watch 300-400hp cars fall prey to ~100hp Miatas.

This guy regularly sets FTD (fast time of the day) with his d-prep Miata pushing a whopping 115whp. Lots of weight reduction FTW.

We had filled up the tires past the normal riding conditions before we got to the event. Not sure if the pressure dropped during the event. The rims were stock.

they do pretty well, but it seems like a miata or other lightweight car will win almost any class if it is built properly.

That's about right, all else being equal.

I'll rectal pluck numbers and say that auto-x results are about 40% driver, 30% tires and setup, and 30% the 'nature of the car' if you will. Provided you're not driving a mack truck or something totally absurd :awe:
