but how efficiant are they at towing and what not?

would this technology be able to be ported to trucks?

http://radio.weblogs.com/0105910/2004/06/21.html

This new mining truck can carry about 360 tonnes (400 tons) at 64 km/h. New Scientist interviewed its designer, Francis Bartley, who says that such a truck costs US$3 million and that the worldwide market for these trucks doesn't exceed 75 units per year. He adds that this is an unconventional truck. It has a 2723-kilowatt diesel engine which powers two electric motors, making the T 282 B the biggest AC drive truck. If you like big toys, you'll enjoy this interview.

Electric motors are great.. The problem is batteries.

they just drain too fast?

They're heavy, expensive, only hold so much energy, lose efficiency over time, and contain hazardous chemicals to dispose of. What's not to like? 😕

THIS is barely a car! I LOVE how the Atom owns cars in performance, that cost several times as much. I guess if they slapped another $100K on the sticker price, it would get more respect around here.

Not everything running off of electric motors gets the power from batteries either!

Cars are the exception however to this day it's silly that we have something that weighs 3000# to lug around a human weighing 110#.

it's a custom one only prototype, of course it will be expensive. The video mentions that even in limited production the cost will be substantially less.

ariel atom

even more crazy, with the stock NA RSX-S engine, the atom is supposed to be even faster than the electric converted one. 0 to 100 mph in 6.8 seconds.

If you're super crazy and have lots of life insurance, there are supercharger kits for this engine.

The Atom is NOT a prototype, and it's about $50,000 USD.

Anybody got a link to the Wrightspeed X-1 video?
