vid card problems

i posted this in video earler, but wasn't getting any responses...i thought i might try here...thanks

i'm running an ATI Radeon VE (which i bought off newegg OEM) using the ATI software (the HydraVision and OpenGL) and i seem to be having problems with it.

for more details on the card look here

when i run video files (such as .mpg, etc.) i cannot full screen the image. i have no problems running the videos, so it is not an issue with the codecs, but when i full screen the image, the image size stays the same, except the area running around it remains the same and the video still runs properly; so basically the file is running at a full screen mode, but the image does not cover the entire screen.

what boggles me is that there are certain file extensions that run full screen properly (such as a few .avi files, and) windows media audio/video file files and DVDs off my dvd-rom using PowerDVD) while other "regular" video files such as divx movies or mpegs don't full screen properly.

on top of that, it just seems like i can't resize the images either (such as when i choose the "fit to window" setting in windows media player (tools>view))

I know it is not my windows media player, because the same problem arises when the same video files when i run them using the ati player.

also, i know it's not my monitor (philips 109b20 at 1600x1200) , because i've tried the philips monitor on a different computer and it runs the same video file at full screen properly)

so it must be my video card. i've tried running a different monitor on this computer and the same problem comes up.

i think there must be a setting i need to change, but i can't find it, so if someone could help me, that'd be great.

thanks

Welcome to the forums. I assume that you've downloaded the latest drivers from ATI's website? Also, you mention that the problem arises when you're playing DIVX files, so I might suggest that you try a couple of different DIVX players to see if they fix your problem.

yeah..i have the latest drivers

and i don't think it's a software thing...cause it's not just divx files...it's also some .avi and .mpg files also

Some AVI files are encoded with DIVX. I have some that I've downloaded that will not run on Windows Media Player but will run on DIVX software like The Playa and BSPlayer

but then that doesn't explain the .mpeg files.

i'm still heavily leaning towards a setting problem with the video card itself

If i remember right, ATI's player is just a cuted up version of WMP, using all the same files/codecs... anybody else heard about this?
