Apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum for this, not sure which is most appropriate.

I'm looking at a vid card upgrade for xmas, a used ti4400/4600 or a used or new 9600 Pro. I'm wondering how much give there is likely to be in prices as xmas approaches, and if retail sales have much effect on the used market? How much are new oem/retail likely to be discounted? If I see what seems like a good deal should I go ahead or wait a while longer? Thanks.

Usually on the day after Thanksgiving you'll see a stellar deal or two on just about everything. There's almost a 100% chance that there will be a smoking deal on a video card. Of course, you may have to stand in line or wait early as the lines form pretty early.

This is one weird year, seems to be almost a shortage of all video cards. Even mid low end are staying quite expensive and few models to choose from. No 5700 ultras, no 9600 pros, even less 9800pros around. Must be the droughts in china or something.

I would think that with the nVidia 6600 GT and ATI X700 Pro/XT coming out sometime soon (I heard a month about 2 weeks ago) at mid-level (~$200), that prices would go down in general since 9800 Pros are $200 right now on a warm deal. I don't know though. Haven't been keeping up very much.

There were some earthquakes a short while back in, I think, Taiwan. Possibly that could be a reason?
