Vid card power issue?

We just upgraded my bro's computer. He wanted to get a new graphics card, but his power supply was crap, so I got him a new PSU to go with it. He got a 2900pro. I got him the OCZ StealthXStream 600W. Anyway, I try to hook it up, and I get nothing on the monitor.
The thing came with 2 6-pin pcie adapters, but the card has a 6-pin slot and an 8-pin slot. I just plugged in both 6-pin adapters and left two of the pins exposed and tried it out. Didn't work. Does it have to have the 8-pin pcie plugin or not? The comp recognizes that the card is there, because it won't even run off the onboard graphics port when the card is in the pcie slot, but it runs of the onboard port when the card isn't in. Also, the fan on the vid card runs when I turn the comp on, but I just get no video on the monitor. The light on the monitor just stays orange, never turns green.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
