Vid card for DVDs

Hey ppl,
Can anyone recommend a video card under $100US that would be good for watching DVD? Is the Radeon LE any good with DVDs?

-Thanks:

Radeons are great for DVDs.

If you dont plan to game, get a rage All In Wonder. Same DVD qual as a radeon, + VIVO and TV IN/OUT stuff.

Are you sure you want to get a videocard bases solely on its ability to play DVDs? To answer your question an ATI videocard is a good choice, but most modern videocards will perform very well in terms of quality and speed.

I would still get a dedicated hardware decoder card which will greatly decrease the CPU load and will give you even better quality.. Hollywood Magic Plus or any other card.

The image quality of a hardware decoder isn't better than with a good software DVD player if you're watching movies on a monitor. If you're outputting to a TV, that's another story...

is PowerDVD good?

Yah, as is winDVD. Depends on your vid card.

A hardware decoder is just as good as a RadeonVE. hardware decoders are usefull for 300 MHz systems with a vodoo 2, but not much else, and not anything with built in decoding (ATI cards, Kyro cards, etc.)
