I gotta hand it to Victorinox, the company that makes Swiss Army Knives. Their customer service is awesome!

I accidently ran my old Swiss Army Knife through the wash, and one of the plastic sides fell off. The tweezers and toothpick went missing as well.

I took it to their corporate HQ in Monroe, CT to see if they could fix it. (It's near where I live. Yeah, I thought it that their HQ would have been in Switzerland as well) They said yes, and they gave me a form to fill out. They also required me to pay $5 for return postage, and told me that it would take about 8 weeks to get fixed. It seemed like a long time to wait, but $5 is a lot cheaper than $25 for a new knife.

That was around February 13th, so I was stunned when I saw a FedEx package on my doorstep on the 20th. Not only did they replace both plastic side pieces, the toothpick, and the tweezers for no extra charge, but they sharpened and polished the knife as well. Awesome!

I'm a huge fan of Victorinox Swiss Army knives. I've carried one daily for over 30 years, and haven't worn one out yet. I've had three altogether, and only bought new ones for a larger knife. I currently carry the Swiss Champ. I did break the pliers in it, but it was blatant abuse. Oh, and the plastic got so worn, it wore below the logo, and it fell out, but I have no complaints :^D

Work related? What do you do for a living, if you'll share? Just being nosy.

hmmm...I had a SwissTool, and my uncle snapped the main blade trying to pry something. If I would have known they did these kinds of repairs I would have sent it in instead of throwing it in the trash. Oh well, I bought another one, and will remember this in case it breaks.

No, not really. I just find a knife generally useful; Swiss Armies especially. I use and abuse all the little tools inside for various repairs, and hillbilly engineering. I've drilled through metal using the awl, sawed small pieces of wood, used the fish scaler as a deburrer, and general probe, and it's my preferred pencil sharpener. It takes more time to sharpen a pencil, but I find it a relaxing break, and no automated tool does a better job.

As to work, I was formerly a land surveyor, and now do a bit of this and that. I'm kind of directionless atm, but I'm off and on looking for technical work that doesn't require me to walk over rugged terrain, or carry very heavy weights(my back's shot).

Thanks. Interesting given you're knowledge of computers, too. Come visit S.C.

My Dad, 75 years, was bitching last weekend that "they might outlaw pocket knives"..."eff 'em, been carrying one since I was 9. It would be like not carrying a pistol.":biggrin:

They are good. I sent an old very filthy knife to the a few years back and I think I only paid shipping and they cleaned it right up.
