I had a minor surgery today and they gave Vicodin for pain.

Orders say in day one I can take two per 6 hours.

I took one, little effect.

An hour later, another.


Now after two total I feel like im sweating to death and have a killer headache. Doctor has closed.


Am I feeling like crap because of the surgery, ie take more vicodin, or like crap because of the vicodin?
 
Drank 32 ounces of gatorade with vicodin number one.

Shouldn't be dehydrated.

I've never taken vicodin before, but I don't think I'd be allergic.


2 at a time every six..................maybe that would have helped.


After day one im not supposed to take two anyways.

I think I'll just not take them. They either aren't helping or are making things worse.
 
Vicodin will knock you on your ass hard; if you are under 300 lbs and aren't a drug addict otherwise, the 3 of them will make you pass the F out.

The headache is dehydration.

Drink some water. Drink as much water as you can. Then take the third one, and pass out.

 
Oh yeah, but you will likely keep on sweating. Vicodin might do that to some people, perhaps.

Maybe its the issue that you had the surgery to beginw ith for thats making you sweat. Either way, you are gunna need lots of water.

I wouldnt suggest over doing on the water, Vicodin aand other opiates have a tendecy to enlarge the prostate making it harder to pass water. God help you if you can't piss.
 
I can only take vicodan if I take Benadryl with it. Allergic to it and codiene. So, after my knee surgery, what did they give me? Yep. Norco (vicodan) and oxycontin. I think the oxy is ok, (I've tolerated percodan ok before...same drug..different formulation). My doctor was amazed..."NO ONE is allergic to Hydrocodone!" he said...Then told me to continue it with the benadryl...works fine that way...
Completely normal for you to sweat a lot. Typical reaction to an opiate drug. The headache could be dehydration, or it could just be a headache...Never had any problem pissing after taking them, but if you take them for an extended period, you'll most likely have trouble taking a crap...

Yup, thast exactly what happens if I take too much.

Op, make sure you eat with vics.
 
Most vicodin pills have acetaminophen mixed in, check your prescription bottle. You shoud not take more then the recommended doseage (I wouldn't take 3 at a time) as you will have too much acetaminophen in your system... that is very hard on your liver. I am on vicodin now for buldging disks in my back. When I first started taking them I would get cottonmouth, but now I don't after using it a few days. They don't help me that much during the day, but two and a glass of water really help me sleep comfortably with the bad back.

Yea, when in doubt, stop the meds.
 
Well, after waking up after 11 hours.............

I have concluded the pain that woke me up, is too much.

We'll try one vicodin and MORE fluid.

Can't eat anything.

As for blood poisoning, I'm on amoxicillin too to prevent infection or whatever.


Hopefully more fluids today make it tolerable.

Vicodin is weak. I don't get the effect it has on people. Takes 3 just to take care of a toothache.

I haven't tried Percocet yet, but I will tomorrow... 🙂
 
Vicodin does that to me at times. Last time I had it for dental reasons, the sweating preceeded the vomiting.

Vicodin and I don't play well together, it either; works ok, makes me vomit, makes me "seasick", gives me insomnia, and ALWAYS constipation. (so drink lots of fluids) Like everybody says, it contains tylenol so don't take more than two every 4-6 hours or the tylenol can reach toxic levels. Being a medic and having some knowledge, not recommending this... but I take one every three hours and that keeps it at the correct level for pain. (if your doc said you could take two every six hours that is.)

Vicodin will also constipate you... did they give you a stool softener as well? If not, eat foods high in fiber and/or take a laxative.
