You mean like last year when he threw for 4300 yards, 26 TD, 12INT, all while getting sacked 50 times behind a shitty offensive line with a poor running game?

Granted, he did well last year and maybe I am wrong. However, you could argue that Manning has a worse running game and a worse defense and still managed to make the playoffs and the SB both last year and in 2006. The o-line play for Manning last year was not good, either, but was better than the Steelers.

I still don't consider Ben elite though. :)

Honestly, even when I think of the elite class, I think there is Manning, a huge gap, and then Brady/Brees. Call me a homer if you want, but Manning is the best I've seen.

There is still a large gap because Manning calls his own plays. :)

P.S. And in the interest of full disclosure, I'm a Purdue grad, so I do like Brees.

Manning is probably one of the greatest football minds ever to step on the field. The guy literally lives, breathes, and dreams football. His planning, practice, and execution is second to no one IMHO.

However, Drew has a fight in him and an ability to rally his troops that that Peyton lacks. It's sort of like a "Miss Congeniality" trophey...but I think Drew is a better teammate/leader but Peyton is a better player.

Grabbing at ways to praise the players...but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

He actually has a film room in his home where he constantly watches game film. I spoke to someone who was a DirecTV installer and they went to Peyton's house to do some work. I asked him: "Did you get to meet and talk to Peyton?"

The guy said "No, he was in his film room. I just talked to his wife."

I think I agree with your assessment regarding Drew's leadership skills. I was surprised, though, that Peyton called the offense together at the end of the Texans game and gave them a pep talk. I don't think I have ever seen him do that.

No Rivers? No Roethlisberger? Shit, I'd still take Rothleisberger over Brees who has only shown me 2 maybe 3 good years and 1 good playoff run (not sure why people are already putting him in the HOF already, just because you help bring a sorry franchise a SB doesn't put your name anywhere near a ballot). Rodgers should not be in the elite discussion (yet) either. The elites up through last year were Manning, Brady, Rothleisberger, Favre, and Warner. 1 is gone, and another has his foot (ankle) out the door. Brees and especially Rodgers need to show me more in the playoffs, until then, they're only elite "fantasy" QBs.

Roethlisberger over Brees?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Brees > Roethlisberger. Everyone knows this.

Edit: and not that the NFL's QB rating is a particularly good metric, but for the sake of brevity, Brees has 6 years of 89+ QB rating, Big Ben has 4.

I think once defensive coordinators review some tapes, they will adjust and shut him down. I don't think any team expected him to play those games and were caught with their pants down.

Who has more Super Bowl wins? Who engineered a perfect 2-minute drill in the 4th quarter to win one of those SBs while his team was down? Who gave up his body to make a last-ditch conference championship saving tackle after Jerome Bettis fumbled on the 1?

Give me a break with Brees, the guy's good but Big Ben, even though I dislike him, has won more and proven himself more. Go ahead and keep copy/pasting HAHAHA a million times like a little child because you're on this guys jock and you probably have him on your fantasy team. Brees wasn't even in the playoffs 2 years ago in the NFC, explain that. Ben is bigger, stronger, he's better in the pocket, and he's accurate under pressure. Sure I'd go the other way from a fantasy perspective, who wouldn't, but I'm not talking fantasy right now. I'd like to see Brees survive going through the AFC like Ben has, that really worked out well for him in San Diego huh? James Andrews would be reconstructing more then his shoulder by now. That mop-top hair would be standing on ends.

Who has more Super Bowl wins?

By my count, the Pittsburgh defense has one and Ben has one. Don't try to claim Roethlisberger did anything positive in Super Bowl 40. 9/21 for 123 yards and 2 INTS (0 TDs) is what I would expect from Curtis Painter -- the (terrible) backup for the Colts.

Who engineered a perfect 2-minute drill in the 4th quarter to win one of those SBs while his team was down? Who gave up his body to make a last-ditch conference championship saving tackle after Jerome Bettis fumbled on the 1?

LOL! 2-minute drives are not the exclusive territory of Roethlisberger. Brady has done it numerous times in the Super Bowl. Manning did it in the AFC Championship a few years back. Drew wasn't in a position where he HAD to win a game with a 2-minute drill and you're going to hold that against him? LOL

Oh, and "gave up his body"? LOL. He tackled a GIMPED Nick Harper, who just a few weeks prior to that game had been STABBED IN HIS LEG. If not for that or the idiot liquored up kicker, Ben would not have had a chance to embarrass himself in SB 40. But since he did, we can laugh.

P.S. Not sure exactly what you meant by "conference championship saving tackle" -- if you meant that it was the conference championship game, you're wrong -- it was the divisional round. If you meant the tackle that enabled them to go on and win the conference championship, you're right.

Give me a break with Brees, the guy's good but Big Ben, even though I dislike him, has won more and proven himself more.

Big Ben was ATROCIOUS against the Seahawks in that Super Bowl. The Steelers won DESPITE him.

Brees wasn't even in the playoffs 2 years ago in the NFC, explain that.

Football is a team sport. I don't think Drew was playing defense too.

LOL, keep dreaming.

What? Now you're being ridiculous. Brees played well with San Diego prior to his injury. You haven't seen Rivers take the team deeper than Drew has the Saints, have you? And arguably, Rivers has had the most talented team in the league a couple of those years.

James Andrews would be reconstructing more then his shoulder by now. That mop-top hair would be standing on ends.

You're right, Ben doesn't have to work with many doctors in the league. He seems to have a penchant for working with lawyers, though.

So many people? I thought it was just me, and I explained my thoughts above. Please pick my post apart if its such a abomination to think a 2-time SB champion is a more proven winner over someone who isn't. Stats are great, Super Bowls are better.

I think it is only 2 guys. If you put Manning on the Steelers, they probably have 4 or 5 Super Bowl wins. The Big Ben jock riders can scream "2 Super Bowl wins!!!11!1!!!" all they want, but Ben was so horrendous in Super Bowl 40 that the Steelers won DESPITE his play. It is pretty embarrassing that they act as if Ben single-handedly won those games, especially SB 40. :D

You're right, I see the light. So when do Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer get inducted into Canton? Will they have Dan Marino give their induction speeches, since apparently he is their bitch since those two at least won a Super Bowl?

I like how any time someone in this thread disagrees with some asinine statement it's because we're biased against their personality or we have them in fantasy football or some other bullshit.

You seem to forget that football is a team sport.

Who has more super bowl wins? Are you fucking kidding me? I guess that puts Drew Brees on the same level with Trent Dilfer. And I guess Dan Marino is garbage. Besides, they won the first SB with Big Ben DESPITE him. If you disagree with this, you clearly did not watch the game.

I'll give you that he's bigger and stronger, but that's it.

The refs helped the Steelers out too, I accept that, what happened to the NFL being a team sport like you say later on in your post though? Don't flip-flop, he was still the starting QB and his team won with him. One could say he was a huge part in why they got there in the first place.

LOL

Uhh, did I say he was the only QB EVER to do it? LOL! No, I know Brady did it a couple times, I'm not debating/comparing Brady. Unfortunately Brees hasn't been in the play-offs enough to be in a pressure-packed 2-minute drill situation, not holding it against him but it speaks on him not making the play-offs very much or having a good run while in one.

And stabbing or not Ben had to turn his back to Harper before tackling him, who had room to run in nearly ever direction except the one he took. Was one of the most impressive non-offense plays I've seen a QB make. If Harper seriously couldn't play then he shouldn't have been in there, him being in on a goal-line stance is enough for me to assume he was good enough to put out there in one of the most desperate moments that game had for Indy.

Big Ben was ATROCIOUS against the Seahawks in that Super Bowl. The Steelers won IN SPITE of him.

He was still the QB of the team Brad Johnson/Trent Dilfered his way through the game. Ward doesn't get his MVP of the SB without Ben zoning in on his clutch receiver.

Football is a team sport. I don't think Drew was playing defense too.

An elite QB overcomes poor defenses. Warner always had crappy D's and he did all he could to overcome it, to the tune of something like 10-5 in the play-offs.

LOL, keep dreaming.

LOL, I'm not dreaming buddy. I've seen Ben shrug off blitzers with ease, nearly get pulled to the ground and still come out of it, move all around the pocket just enough to get his throw off.. he's shown me more composure in the pocket then Brees, put it that way, though I have seen more of him.

What? Now you're being ridiculous. Brees played well with San Diego prior to his injury. You haven't seen Rivers take the team deeper than Drew has the Saints, have you? And arguably, Rivers has had the most talented team in the league a couple of those years.

Yeah, he played well in SD, never took them anywhere though. I wouldn't say Rivers has the better team either, it's debatable, SD's defense was vicious with Jammer and Merriman when Brees was there and still had Gates, a *great* LT, Vicent Jackson was there, they had Tuner as the backup RB, etc..

You're right, Ben doesn't have to work with many doctors in the league. He seems to have a penchant for working with lawyers, though.

No arguement there. The man should be dead for riding a motorcycle without a helmet, and then he should be in jail for doing what he did more recently. Never said the guy was an angel.
