John Wooden, editor-in-chief of www.Whitehouse.org, penned a mock bio of Vice President Dick Cheney's wife, Lynne. It claims that, as a youngster, she loved Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," from "which she would later take her cue when selecting a mate."

In Iraq, that site would have been nuked and the ownder would be wood-chippered.
In Russia... 😉

I thought Cheney was dead already. 😕 I haven't seen or heard about him for about a year now. Trying to hide in the shadows since he has even closer connections to oil than Bush. What a worthless VP.

I didnt see the satirical article.

However you DO NOT have freedom of speech to defame someone.

There often a fine line between satire and defamation.

Like I said I didnt see the article.

That said he still has to go to court and pay court fees, lawyer fees, etc.

The guy's not worried. He knows his satire is protected speech.

yea but he still has to go to court and pay for lawyer, etc

He should counter-sue to recoup the fees of going to court and hiring a lawyer.

Wooden contacted the New York Civil Liberties Union and two of its lawyers, Christopher Dunn and Arthur Eisensenberg, wrote Addington on Tuesday, reminding him that the First Amendment protects satire of public figures.

I'm not sure if the wife of the Vice President qualifies as a "public figure." Has she deliberately placed herself in the public eye (I have no idea)? If not, then Cheney may have a good case.

First place, nobody's suing anyone.

Second place, $20 says the Cheneys have not seen (nor do they care) the site, & had nothing to do with the letter.

Quit posting false information.

I'm not trying to argue with you, but I will defend myself here.

Cheney's council, who is direct representation for Cheney, sent a letter (on Whitehouse stationary)
asking them to remove the biographical parody.

And it was confirmed by Cheney's press secretary.

Regardless if Cheney saw the site himself, or was told about it, or doesn't even know it, people that legally
represent him are suing

(sue - to make a request or application : PLEAD -- usually used with for or to)

the site, on Cheney's behalf, to remove the material.

Therefore, this is not false information.
