I'm sure they are working on getting DOS and external CRT support working for you.

:D

Eugene is the man. He even got the Wifi Calling to work! I'm going to wait a bit before I flash. My phone is working so good right now that I don't want to mess it up. But that Wifi calling feature sure is tempting. That would come in real handy when I'm down in the basement.

I'll be happy with a working voice dialing that Google promised me in 2.2.

Maybe one of the XDA guys can make an app that makes the degaussing sound for him?

BUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

WHAT that would be about as blasphemous as a woman faking an orgasm. Emulating the awesome sound of a CRT degaussing should result in death.

I got voice dialing to work once. I don't have a use for it so I can't comment.

But I do agree about the degaussing. I used to do that when my cat was sleeping on top of my monitor and I wanted to scare her.

I see Team Whiskey put out the Froyo build from yesterday's leaked stock Vibrant Froyo build. And all last night I thought that source guy was a troll. I thought it was strange Eugene suddenly cracked the gps when he couldn't all this time.

The Team Whiskey 2.2 build is really nice. It's basically stock. Couple of problems that are keeping me from actually using it:

USB Mass Storage mounts fine, but you can't copy to the internal storage. If you switch to Media mode, it's fine.
Call audio doesn't route through the 3.5mm headphone jack with regular headphones plugged in <-- dealbreaker.

I'm waiting for the second one to be fixed, or for the bone stock complete JK2 (with no mods) to be released.

running TW's build now. Eugene's seemed to work a little better but not as simple as TW's. Linpack and Quadrant scores are both low (13 and 900 respectively) on TW.

Going back to Eugene's now. Hopefully they get the GPS issues ironed out. Neither one of these builds could get a satellite lock when I tried.

Can the GPS problems even be solved with a software fix? Sounds like it may well be a hardware problem.

the GPS is fine if you want to pinpoint your position or even use it for a walk, but problems start once you start using the navigation system, the gps lags about ~1sec i.e your speed and position, Most importantly your position goes all over the map everytime you make a turn then it relocks your position.
The GPS is FUBAR

GPS reports from XDA are all over the place. Hardware problem that Samsung needs to correct?

it seems as though its hardware and software because of the wide range of reports. The Froyo problems are supposedly driver issues.

The guy that said that turning off bluetooth is an exception. My guess is that his button mapping was off and he was turning off GPS while turning on BT.

That said..BT is way more important in my car than GPS.

GPS and Google Navigation have worked flawless for me. I used both in a couple of areas where I was completely unfamiliar with and got to my destination without a problems. Samsung Captivate.

Wow this is interesting.. So will there be an official 2.2 in the near future?

Yes

If and when it comes to the Vibrant is the mystery.

Samsung has "promised" Froyo for all US Galaxy S devices before the end of this year. I'm not holding my breath. Personally I wouldn't mind a 2.1 update to JI6 that fixed the craptastic battery life. Outside of that, I'd be happy as hell.

Official 2.2 has already dropped in Europe. There are already Captivate ROMs based on this modem/ROM.

There have been a number of recent leaked 2.2 builds for the Captivate, Vibrant, and I believe Epic (just not the Fascinate and Mesmerize, sadly) in the last few weeks. I suspect somebody at Samsung is using the xda community as beta testers. ;) These are device-specific, so yeah I expect official releases are approaching.

Incidentally, the new Rogers (Canada) version of the Captivate is only on 2.1, but has working GPS (which degrades noticeably when US Captivate ROMs are flashed). FWIW.

Flash the JI2 modem. It's compatible and you'll have good battery life with it.
