ViaTalk 2 years for $199+activation/shipping
I signed up back in June and have had great call quality on a 768Kbps downstream/256Kbps upstream on a router w/o QoS (granted I haven't been downloading a ton of files in that timeframe).
Features that I actually use:
1) Unlimited calling in the US means we no longer use cell phone minutes for long distance
2) Online management:
a) Listen to your voicemail through your computer speakers
b) Call forwarding. Want to make a long distance call from somewhere other than your home? Setup call forwarding to that number then call your home number, presto! After the call turn the feature off.
c) Custom caller ID (great for friends cell numbers)
d) Incoming/Outgoing call log, similar to what is stored on your cell phone except there is no limit on the number of entries, great for I forget somebody's rarely used number
e) Trouble tickets, just submit a simple one online and the open up a ticket similar to a threat in a forum, you can continue adding as much info as you want and include files
3) Network Unavailability Forward - If my broadband craps out or poweroutage they will get sent to my cell
4) Remote voicemail access - call a 1-800 number to check your voicemail from anywhere
Features I plan to use (just found out about a lot while researching for this post!)
Call Alarm/Wake-up Call - Great for those who continually hit snooze, myself included
Call Broadcast - Only because my wife is pregnant, can setup a message to go out to 20 people at once when the baby is born
Free 411 service
Call Transfer
Call Recording - great for any online auctions that you don't trust
Take your number with you - in case I ever move I can keep my current home number and all my relatives and friends can still call local to get me wherever I move
Disadvantages:
1) After 14 days they only refund half of your remaining balance.
2) You don't own the adapter, have to mail it back if/when you cancel
3) Have to pay the 2-years upfront
4) Activation and shipping cost, but over the 2 years it is minimal, still only paying $9.91/month
5) Moderate wait when you call in for support, gonna stick with online trouble tickets which have been good for me so far
6) Yet another network device to plug in, might require you to disconnect your current provider to the NIC, I just ran new wiring to my home security system to take my current old telephone wiring out of the loop
Enjoy!
