So, what exactly does Viagra do? I know it gets your "arroused", but after you are "finished", does it go away? If it doesn't... that would suck.... maybe.

 
Inside the pill is an expanding foam which flows to the penis and makes it expand. After a few hours, it is washed away by the bloodflow.

speaking of medical emergencies...you also CANNOT have nitro while you are taking viagra. The effects can kill if combined...so if you have heart problems and you need emergency service, tell them you are taking viagra!
 
Actually, it blocks the enzymes that cause blood vessels to constrict--in effect, widening the blood vessels (vasodilation). That's why the drug was originally being tested in heart patients. After a while, the investigators were noticing an "interesting" side effect 😀

To answer the question, AFAIK, in most cases, the erection doesn't immediately go away; you're still stuck in a recovery period, but it's still erect. Also, as you note, it isn't instantanious, it takes time to kick in.

What makes that happen in some people? It'd be pretty embarrasing to have to go to the hospital for that. There are several other similar drugs now. Perhaps they don't have the chance of that happening.
 
I have written a long detailed answer, that may boarder on being R rated, but is hopefully ok because it is strictly scientific in nature, and answers the kind of question lots of follks want to know about Viagra, but no one ever explains, or they beat around the bush and don't really really explain it in lay terms.

For this reason, I think I will post it in a different thread least it causes this one to get locked. I hope before anyone thinks of locking it, they read the whole thing.
