Via vs Promise SATA Controller

The parts are starting to roll in for my new build.

Coolermaster TAC-T01 Wavemaster
Antec 480W True power
MSI K8T Neo
AMD64 3400+
ATI Radeon 9800XT
Sounblaster Audigy 2 ZS platinum
Corsair 1024twinx CMX 3200LL
WD 74GB Raptor (X2)

At this time I do not plan to install a raid but will use the two raptors as separate drives. Any thoughts on using the promise vs the via controllers? I will be installing XP home, thanks

I believe that if you are using SATA non-raid, then the via is better. http://www.amdmb.com has a good thread in their Asus forum. The asus board (K8V deluxe) has the same chipset and raid controllers as the MSI.

I recently rain into problems trying to get the VIA SATA controller to be recognized by the Windows 2000 setup program. I ended up having to use the promise controller to get the setup program to take advantage of the drivers without error. I highly doubt there is any appreciable performance different between the two controllers.
