VIA PT800 P4 Chipset Preview

Wow, that board performs really well for a single channel motherboard. I wonder if they'll ever release a dual channel board with a controller that well made.

Impressive, now if it doesnt have some horrible BIOS or compatibility issue. I'll look into getting it. 🙂

thx for the linky NFS, as always.

VIA boards always seem to do well in PREviews😱

Now, all I want to see is the price on that thing. If it comes under $150, I'm going to regret having gotten the Asus P4P800 Deluxe because I could have gotten the Via board and used a single 512MB Corsair XMS stick isntead of 2x 256MB XMS sticks. Not a big deal for the most part, but it gives more future expansions compatibility.

Hehe, that came to my mind too. I'm hoping they actually get this one selling and marketed well, because it could offer more competition and with more competition the end consumer may get some mor performance he wouldn't have without competitors, not to mention lower prices.

This is great news, only wish there was an eta on when we might see this chipset on the market. I might postpone upgrading my computer if it's only a 3 month wait.

Pretty amazing how VIA was able to get performance to equal a dual channel setup. I would have expected more to see this with the KT600 for AMD then I was the PT800... pretty shocking.

Actually, they do pretty good in the reviews too... It's generally a few weeks after the users get their hands on them do we see what they are really like.

Interesting read, but I was hyped about the P4X333/400 too, especially after HardOCP and Anand's reviews of them, but when I actually got the mobo, it performed ok, but not as good as I had hoped. I was all ready to go out and buy an Abit IS7 too, especially if Intel starts to cripple newer versions of the 865 chipset. I wanna see the OC ability of the PT800, that would most likely be the deciding factor for me.
