I dont know which forum this goes to, but it must be a software issue and I run Windows so ...

Windows 7 Pro, in a custom built box on ASUS P8B75-M.

Anyway, I am now being tormented by 2 popups. One is a small one, about the size of a postage stamp, from the systray. The title is “VIA Adeck Message.” and inside the message says “Jack plugged in.” or “Jack plugged out.” When it comes up, it is shortly followed by a popup in the middle of the screen, about the size of a deck of cards, titled “Please select a function”. There is a very large radio button, about a quarter inch across, at the top, saying “Headphones.” and below, indented a bit, are two more, “Headphones” and “Front Mic”, with OK and Cancel buttons. And of course it sits there till I close it, and it stays in front.

I have had this computer for several years, and never saw any such thing before. I googled for the popups, and it seems there are plenty of people over the years who had them popping up, and asked on various forums, but none of the replies are at all useful. They generally tell you to open up the VIA HD Audio Deck Control Panel. But I cant find that anywhere on my computer. I do seem to have VIA for audio, the Control Panel Sound thingie lists VIA High Definition Audio Default Device. Or they say to do this or that with your jacks and headphones, etc. I don’t use headphones or a microphone. I don’t plug in jacks or unplug them.

So I have no idea what is triggering them or how to stop it.

I recently had an issue with a Windows Update that I had to uninstall, maybe that has something to do with this? I posted about it here

But the problem there was a network issue, and it was back in June, and this problem started about 6 weeks later. So who knows if it’s related

Could be a driver update from Windows Update if you don't know where it came from. You will probably find what is starting these in msconfig.

I finally found that the popups were apparently run by

C:\Program Files (x86)\VIA\VIAudioi\VDeck\VDeck.exe

I had found that exe mentioned in another google search page, and located it in Task Manager. Then when the popup came along, I killed the exe and the popup immediately disappeared. So I think that's the exe for the popups.

I then found it in msconfig/startup, and disabled it. But after restarting, I lost my sound completely. Rats and darn!!!

I re-enabled it and restarted and the sound was still dead. Luckily there is not just a port on the back of the machine, leading to the speakers, but a port on the front of the box, too. That one still works, so I am using that now.

I sure dont understand any of that, at this point.

There is probably a configuration somewhere that would allow you to run the necessary programs without the extra apps. You might even want to try uninstalling the current driver and letting Windows itself try to find a driver without the popup. But glad you found a solution that is working for now.
