VIA or nForce?

Mrvile

Should I use the nForce3 (2?) or the VIA K8T800 for an AMD Athlon64 skt 939 3200+ and a Radeon X800XT (is the PE out AGP?)

Hmm everyone seems to like nForce...does the VIA have any strong points? If not then why is it still in production...? 😛

Ok ok ok. Also who makes the best nForce3 motherboards? (I know this should go under the motherboards forums but I don't wanna spam) The DFI Lanparty one looks pretty BA but its 754 only :/

Aaaaaactually I been surfin around and Abit's AX8 and AX8-V are the new K8T890's that have just been released (but not at retail yet), and this is a good PCI-e solution. I don't feel like waiting till nForce4 comes out, plus I hear that besides SLI, everything else about the nForce4 sucks. If I wanted to go PCIe, should I stick with the K8T890's instead? X800XTPE's are also much more common in PCIe...

Go K8t890. Abit in my mind makes superior products and the difference between these two chipsets exepct for a point here in there in synthetic benchmarks is negligible. If you want a pci-e solution go with the abit. A lot of people are waiting for the nerw Nforce which is going to drive the price of that board unnecessarily high. So go with the Abit VIA solution if you want it NOW. Just my two cents...

Nothing about NF4 sucks except it doesn't have SS2. Everything else is top notch.

Well I didn't mean that it sucked, just that it was exactly the same as the NF3.

Anyone know any red NF3 motherboards? 🙂 I was gonna make a red themed computer (red GPU, sound card, and hopefully MB). The Abit AX8 is sweetly red.

I know MSI used to make red pcb mobo's, I don't know about any more though...

Get the new Asus Nforce 4 board. It will be well worth your while if you use those features.

The VIA chips are no doubt competitive and good but they simply dont beat the Nforces.

MSi Neo2 Platinum got the Anand Gold Award. nForce 3 Ultra rocks. Onboard 7.1, too, so no need for expensive sound cards.

Biostar reb pcb nf3 board...

Yeah it's red alright but it's also socket 754. Anyway when I said I needed red I was kinda kidding...

The NF4 and the K8T890 are both pretty cool. I'll give it till the end of the year. If NF4 boards aren't out by then I'll get the K8t890, if so then I'll get the NF4.

Nothing about the NF4 sucks. But nothing about it is revolutionary, and that is what people wanted and did not get. The Nforce 4 is and was only meant to be a pcie nforce 3. The SLI feature is something extra we get. Nvidia said like over a year ago(before athlon 64s came out even) that we were not going to get soundstorm on any boards from them in the future, I dont know why this is surprise to some people.
