Via/Nvidia/WinXP Problem?

I recently put together a new system (see below). All my hardware and software seemed to work fine with the exception of games and screen savers that ran open gl. I found the following site which mentioned the problem and gave various solutions
(http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=64) but unfortunately the only one that worked for me was lowering the Dram speed settings to 100 mhz from 133. The system runs stable for days and under various benchmarks (except 3DMark2001) with memory settings of 133, but certain games freeze up until I return the mem settings to 100 (with 100 I can have the other settings on high). I know it's not the memory because it tested fine on a friends computer, stable up to 145 mhz. What I haven't tried is my new video card on my friends computer which runs win 98 (the site says the problem is with Via/Nvidia/WinXP). I've tried 23.11 & 21.83 drivers, updated via 4 in 1 to 4.37v(a) but no help. Anyone else come across this problem? Any help greatly appreciated.

As a consolation, I've overclocked (as a last resort) the fsb to 142 and the video card 10% and am getting 7803 on 3DMark2001. I guess it could be better though.
