VIA northbridge, FastWrites and nVidia GeForce 3

First of all salutations to all of you in this forum!


I had the great idea to buy a ready-to-use PC (call me Compaq Pressario 5000) to start my computing perils.


However in something like 6 months i realised my mistake :shock: !

I think that a Compaq is good for people who don't know a lot (or almost anything) about computers to start with. But as you go deeper and deeper.....

Anyway here is the prob....


I got this great video card (nVidia GeForce 3) and i want to push it a bit extra. Nothing special, just to enable FastWrites in the VGA card and my chipset (Apollo Pro 133A). Turning on FastWrites was easy in the VGA card (i used Rive Tuner or i just created some very interesting registry entries after studying some plug-ins in x-setup 6.0), but my chipset refuses to turn them on.

I tried to use Compaq BIOS Yeap no option there.... :disgust:
Then i took a look in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VIAGART ...... there i find the following:

SideBand 01 00 (sideband addressing enabled)
Turbo 01 (i guess it must be something to enable AGP 4x)

Since FastWrites and SideBandAddressing is on by default in the VGA card BIOS, i think that there is a possibility here that its the same for the chipset. So is it possible to enable FastWrites just by a registry key and if so what could it be like (like FastWrite 01 00 or something) ?

Then if not and i have to do something about the BIOS settings can anybody tell me how to change (hack the BIOS) and change that setting, so FastWrites would be enabled at last?

Anyone here with a VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset and Fastwrites enabled? Please reply cause i wanna compare some registry keys and values here, maybe so i will find a solution here.
