Been shopping for a new mobo for my home theater PC. I have an Athlon 64 Sempron skt 754, ATI AIW 9600 AGP, etc, and what I think is a dead EPoX mobo. As I search newegg for replacement microATX boards with AGP since I don't want to have to rebuild an entire system that's one year old with new PCI video, etc, I see that others are commenting on VIA compatibility issues with ATI Radeon video.
Couple of questions:
Is it the North Bridge or south that I need to concern myself with? Both?
My current (dead) EPoX has VIA K8M800 and VT8237R and ran with the Radeon relatively well without issue. Other boards have the same north but VT8237 south (no -R), and those are the ones with the negative ATI compatibility remarks. Does the VT8237R do better with ATI?
Or should I just dump the whole mobo/processor/ATI AIW card for a newer, more modern setup? Looking to stay a little budget conscious, so using the older AGP ATI card and Athlon 64 would be great.
