i had an ECS k7s5a (sis715) board with lite-on 16x burner
now I have epox 8kha+ (via 266a) with the same lite-on 16x and then later switched to a QPS 24x

anyhoo... i noticed that with the ECS setup... i could be burning a cd and do any other task with ease.... even load photoshop and stuff

im not sure if it was also like that with the EPOX + Liteon but now on the EPOX + QPS (all IDE drives), the computer really slows down when im burning stuff... almost to a crawl

does anybody experience the same problem?

Sounds like you are running in PIO mode. Did yu do a fresh OS install when you switched boards?

What OS? Did you load the latest Via 4-in1 drivers? Did you check the Device Manager to make sure the drives are running UDMA and not PIO? Is "CDROM UDMA Support" enabled in the bios?

Windows XP PRO
LATEST (4.42) Via drivers

just enabled CDROM UDMA in bios (didnt know it was there)
in windows ide figuration in sytsem properties i set to "enable dma if possible"

but at BIOS boot it stll shows that the QPS 24x10x40 is in PIO4 mode and in windows it says ide secondary primary (the CDRW) is in PIO mode

my computers are always slow when burning CD's... loading stuff takes long when you are burning at 32X, it needs alot of data to the burner so it'll take alot longer to load other things... all my drives are running in DMA mode. UDMA for the hdd's, and DMA for my burner (max supported) but it still bogs down a bit. not to the point where it's unusable, though.
