For Immediate Release
VIA Launches the VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266, the First Integrated Graphics
Chipset for the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor Platform
Delivering the powerful performance of the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor
combined with fast DDR266 SDRAM and effective AGP 8X bandwidth graphics at
ultra-competitive price points
Taipei, Taiwan, Thursday 1st November, 2001 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a
leading innovator and developer of core logic chipsets, microprocessors, and
multimedia and communications chips, today announced the launch of the VIA
ProSavageDDR P4M266, the first core logic chipset with integrated graphics
for the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor.
Harnessing industry-leading DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM memory and the rich
2D/3D quality of the enhanced S3 Graphics ProSavage8(tm) core with effective
AGP 8X bandwidth, the VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266 raises the performance bar for
cost effective desktop computing and provides significant headroom for
running the demanding software applications of the future. The VIA
ProSavageDDR P4M266 also boasts the latest South Bridge technology with
first to market innovations like cost saving integrated 3Com® networking in
the VT8233C and the introduction of Ultra ATA-133 in the VT8233A. Ultra
ATA-133, offering 33% more bandwidth between hard drive and CPU, enables the
VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266 to deliver more performance in data intensive
applications like business productivity software than rival mainstream
desktop platforms.
For OEMs and System Integrators, development costs are minimized by the
comprehensive S3 Graphics driver set and the flexibility of the VIA Modular
Architecture Platform (V-MAP) with a choice of pin compatible South Bridge
designs and an optional external AGP port enabling a variety different
system configurations based on the same platform.
"The VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266 with integrated graphics and DDR memory reduces
system cost while delivering unprecedented performance and stability, making
a compelling argument for widespread corporate migration to the Intel
Pentium 4 processor platform" commented Richard Brown, Director of Marketing
at VIA Technologies, Inc. "The launch of the first integrated graphics
chipset for the Intel Pentium 4 reinforces VIA's leadership position in
developing DDR memory based chipset solutions for the most powerful
processors available"
VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266
The VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266 with a 400MHz Front Side Bus, the high
performance DDR 200/266 memory controller from the VIA Apollo P4X266, and
the superb performance of the enhanced S3 Graphics ProSavage8(tm) core
yields an unbeatable mix of power, flexibility and value. Supporting
enhanced 128-bit 3D and 2D engines, effective AGP 8X equivalent internal
bandwidth throughput through 128-bit data paths, 32MB of Frame Buffer
capability and DVD DXVA Motion Compensation for smooth DVD playback, the
integrated S3 Graphics ProSavage8(tm) core provides class leading 2D,3D,
video quality and performance. Flexibility is enhanced by an optional
external AGP slot to enable future upgrades if required.
Supporting up to 4.0GB of DDR memory, the VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266 leverages
the power of the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor to full effect, enabling
outstanding multitasking capabilities and allowing corporate and consumer
customers to fully exploit Microsoft Windows® XP and Office XP applications,
with significant headroom for the next generation of software applications
and Internet technologies. On industry standard benchmarks such as 3D
Winmark, the VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266 provides performance gains of up to
100% when compared with systems using an Intel Pentium® III processor and
Intel 815 chipset, the current desktop standard.
VIA Modular Architecture Platform
The flexibility of the VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266 is further enhanced by the
unique VIA Modular Architecture Platform (V-MAP), which allows customers to
couple the North Bridge with a variety of South Bridge chips depending on
their required feature sets. These include the VT8233 and VT8233A (with
Ultra ATA/133 Interface), and the VT8233C, which features an integrated 3Com
10/100Mb Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC) as well as built-in AC'97
audio, MC'97 modem support, 6 USB ports, and Advanced Power Management.
V-MAP also makes the VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266 integrated North Bridge
pin-to-pin compatible with the VIA Apollo P4X266, enabling OEMs and SIs to
reduce their costs and time to market by offering systems covering a full
spectrum of system price points using a single motherboard platform.
