I wonder if this review will come out this week
Maybe he'll start waiting for other boards till it turns into one of those roundups
i'd be happy with just the reference board or one namebrand board

ohh well i'm patient
bet it'll be a good review too

Rather than quibble over a frame or two at an absurd resolution, I would be curious as to:

1) stability
2) features - namely sound
3) speed of LAN

How does this correlate with this thread????? If you didn't have any interest in the chipset, what was the post for?

I can comment on via based boards since that is about all Ive owned(except for a few nforce/nforce 2 boards-which I have now). I was ticked when i got the Kt133 & then they came out with the kt133a, then the kt266/266a & now the same thing with the 400/400a. It would be nice if they could get it right on the 1st try. Each one was "this is the chipset to get with this memory/cpu combination" & a few months later we find out that they it wasnt the chipset to get & they will will come out with a revised/improved version. Dont get me wrong, Ill still buy via based motherboards-just gwish they would get it right the 1st time around. :)

It's a trend dude. Never buy any first revision of any VIA's chipset. :D

i agree. the KT266 sucked. the KT266A rocked.
i do hope VIA has got the same performance boost for the KT400 and KT400A like the KT266 and KT266A.

kt333 was, imo, the ONLY chipset they got right on the first try LOL

Yeah I agree there on the KT333. Although, it was basically the KT266 part 3 anyways.

EVAN, ( or anyone ), do you have any idea of when we might expect the KT400A boards to be available retail?? Are these upcoming boards just engineering samples or do you expect them to be final versions.

...I need a board SOON , my current one is starting to get flaky ( suspect capacitors ). Thanks for any thoughts/info you might have.

If this thing (the KT400a) is faster than my nForce2 board, I don't even want to hear about it. I'm not upgrading my mainboard for at least a year.

Today I've got info that GB KT400A boards will be for sale at the beginning of April

The wait maybe good because nforce and sis may have worked out the kinks by then, and if the performance of this chip is not up to par there will be stable alternatives.:)

The KT400A will be faster than the Nforce2, I have built KT400's that are faster than the Nforce2 and Nforce2's that are faster than the KT400's so that tells me they are about the same right now with the new drivers for the 400,

so, when are 400 mhz AMD chips gonna come out to take advantage of this? Currently they top out at 333.

Hmmm I hope Abit will make another MAX board wround the KT400A or Nforce2. That would be really awesome.

true , but lets not forget that NF2 boards overclock better because the pci/agp are locked , 200 fsb is almost guaranteed , 210-215 with good memories and with some luck ... THIS makes the diference !

Well not all Nforce2 boards will clock over 200 and most KT400 boards will clock 200 without AGP and PCI lock, Like you say it has a lot to do with luck and a lot to do with how and who sets them up, I am not saying the KT400's will clock higher or run faster but I have seen the KT400 beat the Nforce2 with the KT400 running at 133 and the Nforce2 running at 166, I built both and run the test,

...To me, KT400A is starting to look like Hammer, maybe we'll see it next september. I finally gave up waiting and I am going to get a nForce2 board tomorrow. For the last three months all I have heard is KT400A is just around the corner. Long way to that corner if you ask me.

AGING MEMBER ...I ordered an Abit NF7-S today, they just released the 1.2 revision. Supposed to cure the shortcomings of the first versions. PLUS, it is a slick new orange board. I never thought Abit would move away from those ugly brown ones. ..

.. I really wanted to see what the KT400A would do, but from the scant information I have seen it isn't supposed to have much of a performance increse over KT400. I do think that the dividor issue was addressed though.

People, do you all really believe that there will be enough of a difference between the KT400A and any curent board to justify buying it? The Inquirer's article said:
There will be some performance increase but we were advised not to hold our breath and not expect too much in terms of performance.
I REALLY don't think that VIA will be able to squeeze that much out of the KT400A, but I could be wrong.

As for availability, they're saying the same thing as was said in here:
It will go into mass production in April and that's the timeframe when these boards are expected.
I just wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.
