VIA KT3 Ultra High Performance BIOS?

I will be building my first REAL gaming system.

AMD CPU |1800+/266 ATHLON 1.53G XP RT
MB KT333|5P3D KT3 ULTRA MSI
DDRAM 256M|32X64 PC2100 NANYA-K RTL
350W ALLIED ATX350P4 POWER SUPPLY
CHAINTECH GeFORCE 4 64 MB
STOCK CPU FAN
2 COOLING FANS IN THE CASE

I would like to know if you more experienced techs think I should just load the default high performance BIOS settings. I'm not an over clocker yet, but I would like to get the most out of my system with out a high risk of burning it up. What about the VID Card? Any tips there? If anyone has experience with this setup your input would be greatly appreciated.

Also will 350W be OK to power this baby up?

I can't build it you because I'm waiting for the damn case. I should be here tomorrow.

Anyone out there?
If you are planning to get the most out of your rig and possibly overclock I suggest that you upgrade your RAM choice to either Corsair XMS series or Samsung PC2700. I also suggest that you bump up the PSU to an AMD approved 400W unit instead of 350. The stock HSF is fine for stock cooling, but if you want a performing gaming rig, you may want to purchase a better cooling HSF.

Only my opinions of course.. 😉

EDIT: Here is a BIOS Optimization Guide.

Yes you?re right I know your right. I should have gone for the 2700 Mem. But alas I got the 2100. I am upgrading from an AMD K6-2 500 MHz 192 MB RAM so try to understand my thinking when I say I am finally building a gaming system. I was under the impression this new system will handle the newer games coming out. Am I wrong? :disgust:

Well I guess you just summed up my next upgrade. Should I assume over clocking would be a bad Idea? I still don?t know if the High Performance BIOS setting is considered over clocking. I guess I?ll find out tomorrow. Wish me luck! 😉

Thanks for the input and guide! 🙂

I wish you the best of luck, and I am sure that your rig will be fine for gaming. You just mentioned the possibility of OC'ing, and I made some suggestions not knowing that you already have your components. I would start out with the default BIOS settings to load your OS and setup your games, then slowly tweak your BIOS for better performance one step at a time.

If you are happy with the way your new rig games/performs, you don't have to OC. Be warned though... OC'ing can be very time consuming, additive, and fun. 😀 Did I mention expensive?? I'm sure that you will be very happy upgrading from your K6-2 rig to your new one. 🙂

That sounds like a good plan to me!

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas! I checked that damn UPS tracking like 5 billion times already! Maybe I should check again? Hold on.

OK I?m back. Damn no luck! :frown:

Have a good one Technonut! Thanks again! 😀
