I just upgraded my system from a BX motherboard and intel CPU to a VIA KT133A (ABIT KT7A) + AMD Duron and I'm experiencing very strange problems... At first I thought the problem was Windows 2000 internal because of the upgrade so I decided to do a clean install.

After a clean install and getting all the upgrades, patches and service packs the problem is still there... It affects the display by showing usually vertical lines across buttons and icons in windows. This starts a few minutes after the machine boots up (ie the display is clean at first) and gets worse over time. At first it's just the menu arrows and buttons, then it affects the icons in menus and taskbar and system tray, and later it shows on the desktop as well, as a few random pixels.

My system is:
Windows 2000 Professional, ABIT KT7A, Creative Labs Geforce 256 DDR, SB Live Player 1024.
I'm using Liveware 3.0 drivers for SB Live (the "latter" version)
Via 4-in-1 v4.29
Nvidia detonator 7.58 w/Directx8

I've tried a previous version of the detonators (6.31), different versions of the BIOS (including the latest beta bios), moving the SB Live around and making sure it has it's own IRQ.. The HPT370 is disabled.. I've tried disabling USB, and every advanced option in BIOS, even tried disabling AGP 4X, lowering the CPU frequency etc.. Nothing seems to help.

Now this is my first VIA motherboard and I know they're fairly problematic but you're supposed to be able to get them to work properly.. Every other component in the system (hard drive, video card, memory etc) was working properly on the BX motherboard. And the power supply isn't a problem, it's a 300W ATX from AOPEN.

Any ideas, suggestions?

cheers,
Dan
