What the hell kind of question is that??? Of course it works. How? Same way every other chipset does.

Sorry, allow me to explain.
I am building a computer and someone on a board posted this when he talked about using WIN2K Pro for gaming:

<< Just for the record: when I had my Athlon 900 and tried running Windows 2000 my computer was incredibly fast. Too fast in fact. My screen movement was too quick to play. I had to set my mouse input to 1.5 to 2 to even control it. I believe there were issues with the VIA chipset timing and Win2k. So I dumped it and went back to Win98SE. >>

I have not used WIN2K with an athlon system I wanted to know if it would be stable and if there were any issues between the two specificaly a motherboard with the KT133A chipset.

I apoligize for not explaining.

I don't think you should apologize. I have a 900 tbird.. only I have the A7V (non a).. I don't notice any bad mouse craziness. I never heard of such a problem with the 133a either.

I've built several computers with the KT133A chipset and a 1GHz Athlon, and I've never experienced such a problem.

Running a overclocked Duron and a KT133A A7V133. No problems, works really well together.

Dual 700e @ 933 on a 133A chipset and no problems so far - smooth as butter.

To alleviate your fears I have two system running that VIA chipset dual booting Win2kAS/98SE on the MSI mobo and Me/Win2kPro on the Asus mobo. No problems whatsoever. Just make sure that you install via's latest 4in1 drivers after loading OS

The KT133E is akin to either a really beefed up KT133 or a slightly downgraded KT133A. It doesn't officially support the 133mhz bus but everyone who has tried it it worked for (but it seems to top out at around 140 which is lower then the KT133A can do). The KT133E is also built on a smaller die size so theoretically it should run cooler (I guess). Finally, it supports AMD's PowerNOW! technology. Other than that they're about the same.

Thanks for the info. Umm.... PowerNOW for desktop? That's kinda strange don't you think?

Hey I don't make the rules :). Of course since it's done a smaller micron process then it might be intended for laptop/notebook use as well. Just a thought.

I believe the timing issues are with the usb drivers for usb modems and such..I had to switch my usb dsl modem for an ethernet based modem. The patches I found for this problem (usb filters patch ??) didn't work for me. But, other than that problem the Asus A7V133 has been great for me.

I haven't noticed any issues yet. 2 standard usb ports seem to work fine, hub planted in one of those, and my new MB came with the 2 rear port slot and those seem to work fine sa well.
