<< Gotta love it when the rumor mill gets cranked up! Paraknowya is reporting that VIA has in fact already purchased STMicroelectronics Graphic Division. What exactly that all would consist of, I am not sure. What I am sure of is this. ST has in fact abandoned KYRO3 even though the technology is pretty much complete and the chipset was waiting for the million dollar process of being "taped out". We all know VIA has the money to do what is rumored here and champion the PowerVR technology. Thanks Chris.

In few words the news is the following: "I have spoken with the R&D STMicroelectronics manager. He has said me that contrarily to the refutation of the last days, the graphical unit is of fact already sold to Via !!!"

We have probed several of our contacts (not that way) and there have certainly been some rumblings of this over the last few weeks. VIA had no comment on the situation at the time of writing this.

I'll wait until I hear VIA/STMicro confirm it before I take this as gospel truth, but it's certainly no surprise.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. I like Kyro very much. I just wish it would have been sold to a different company. Look at what Via has done with its acquisitions. Savage line of graphic chips? Nothing. Cyrix....nothing. I would have rather seen Intel or SiS buy them out. Imagine getting a SiS 765 motherboard with KyroIII onboard. That would be awesome.

That's good if VIA has, but again it's no suprise. They do need to get something better than ProSavage.

I did hear a lot of recent hubbub about a new SiS video chipset... 630?
I don't suppose it's the Kyro3 takeover?
