Hey guys. I'm building a computer for myself, but I have some problems/questions to ask of you people. To start, I have had mucho problems with the VIA 4-in-1 drivers....I've gone from 4.24 all the way up to 4.29 final and they all act the same to me. I cannot enable DMA and make it stayed checked in the System Properties. Upon reboot, the box goes unchecked. This problem is relevant on my Asus A7V and Asus A7V133 motherboards. One more thing to note, I have a CDROM, CDRW, DVDROM, (2) HDDs in each machine now. Another thing to note is that the DMA does not stay enabled in Win9x/WinME, but in Win2k, it will stay checked, even when VIA 4-in-1 4.29 are installed. I need DMA checked for DVD playback, by the way. How come, though, my IDE HDDs still say SCSI next to them, even with 4.29 final installed? Wierd, eh? I am just debating on whether I should go with the AMD/Asus A7V133 or Intel/Asus CUSL2 setup??? I haven't heard of any problems with the i815E chipset, which is used in the CUSL2 motherboard. I have heard some things about not being able to write CDs with certain drivers installed on the CUSL2, which kind of shed me away from going with the Intel setup. Any suggestions/comments? Please help me on that VIA 4-in-1 issue.

To let you know, the AMD setup would consist of an AMD 1.2Ghz 266Mhz bus "C"-Type Athlon and the Asus A7V133 motherboard. The Intel setup would consist of an Intel 1Ghz 133Mhz bus and an Asus CUSL2 motherboard. Both systems would have the same components, but the Intel setup would require the addition of a Promise ATA100 Controller.

Thanks a million!

If you install Windows 2000 on the Asus A7V133 just leave it hooked to the IDE controller. If you check in the device manager you will see that it is in UDMA mode. This is without the 4in1 drivers installed. Your drive wont be identified as a SCSI device.
When I installed the latest 4in1 drivers the 4.29s my system ran fine for a while but later gave me a registry corruption. These drivers are a mixed bag. They seem to work for some and create major problems for others even though they are using similar hardware. I recently installed the 4.29 4in1s in a friends machine with a MSI Pro2a and they worked great with none of the SCSI detection issues. His performance is now much better.

By the way, you should also be able to check DMA for your DVD with a clean install of Windows 2000 without installing the 4in1s.
