The new Cyrix III stilll sucks even though it has a .15 micron, 64KB L2 cache and a 133MHz bus. Article here... http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1396. Maybe if they can get the L2 cache to work right then it could compete. I hope they get their act together though because if they can make a processor that could compete then it would bring now the prices of AMD and Intel's processors which would be cool!

Well at least it doesn't suck as big? Or it only sucks a little? ;) hehehe

Sorry, it's just such a P.O.S! :D

Cheaper than the celeron But more Expensive than a Duron.

Since duron is cheaper & much faster than both..............

I think it might be dead on arrival.:(

I wonder how it runs in SMP? It must perform similar to one Duron 600. But performance isn't bad if you put This chip into an Iopener computer.

What moron would actually buy this?

Please VIA, you looked respectable with KT133 chipset.... please pull this and save face. This chip make you look desperate and inept.

Thats what intel did ramped up the clock speed on a horible performing chip and is anyone buying them?

If cyrix would have made it on the eve6 platform it might have competed at least with the celeron

VIA Hardware didn't like our numbers :Q

<< Anandtech has finally reviewed the Samuel 2, and I must say I am shocked. The performance is absolutely horrible, there is no other word for it. This is not at all what we experienced when working with the chip, and our sample is a 600MHz version, 66MHz slower then Anand's sample.
Also, for some incomprehensible reason, they tested the application performance of the chip under Windows 2000, which is certainly not the OS it will be used with. Also, Win2K's support for the Samuel 2 is questionable.

We will update our review with Sysmark 2000 and Winstone 2001, but I can't believe our findings will be much different the second time around. The Samuel 2 is a huge leap over its L2-less predecessor, despite Anand's surprising numbers.

Via Hardware is right. Noone would use it for Win2000. Why was it benchmarked with it?

It shouldn't matter...the chip should give consistent performance across different OS's like the Celeron and the Duron do. It shouldn't get special treatment just b/c it's a Cyrix chip

It shouldn't get speacial treatment

The public has the right to know what this chip does on win9x like we all do for the other chips. It could be an incompatibility in win2000 and benches in win9x could explain. not mislead.

Okay, how about a compromise? It sucks in W2k, but in Win9x most stuff, other than games where its sh!tty FPU comes out to play, runs like a celeron would. Good enough? ;)

I think it's really sweet how you can run it fanless actually. :p But that's it.

Well if they make a 600MHz+ processor that will work on my old PPGA motherboard I might get one. Because I am going to build my granddad a new computer out of old parts laying around for his place down here in florida and all he does is go on the internet and write letters to people on Word. So it would work ok I guess.

There's also the fact that it it does happen to be .15 micron and at default speeds requires no fan. So with a nice cooling setup the thing should overclock quite nicely. Also, if it will run in an SMP system, I might would actually consider it. Dual 1Ghz overclocked Cyrix III's might wouldn't make a bad Linux or Win2k workstation (since P3 is much more expensive for SMP and T-Bird/Duron's 760MP chipset would require that I replace my SDRAM with DDR SDRAM, which I don't want to do).

... Sheeeeet ...

Welcome to Cyrix, the FOREVER SUCKING project!

- Ladies and Gentlemen, we've shown you in the past how we suck at .25um, while screwing you over with our very own PR-ratings! We've tried to suck at .18um but failed.

- And now - our feature presentation!
WE ARE THE FIRST TO SUCK AT .15um !!!
Isn't that amazing? Not only we suck as compared to the inferior .18um competitors;
WE ALSO SUCK BIGTIME EVEN COMPARED TO THEIR .25um RELICS!

But do not worry, we won't stop here; we'll try to show you that we can suck much harder and will relentlessly perfect our ART.

SUCK YOU LATER !!!

P.O.S. Give us just a couple more years, and at .11um we'll prove you that we CAN outperform the co-processor-less 386CX by 0.5 FPS in DOOM!
