I read that windowsXP has built in drivers for VIA mb chipsets, but VIA still releases newer versions.
is it better to use via's latest drivers?
i've been using the XP drivers and haven't had stability problems.
Will I notice performance increase?

This question comes up all the time,I would install the latest VIA 4 -in -1 drivers( now called Hyperion ,4.46 are the latest) especially if you have a newer VIA chipset.

By default on install it will just update the VIA AGP driver and INF files.

I did get some speed increase when I upgraded my VIA AGP driver awhile back compared to the XP built-in VIA driver.

You can run XP without the 4in1?s but you HDD performance will be terrible and your graphics card performance will also be down. I tried it, and my HDD performance was 1/6, copy/pasting a 100MB file on my desktop took 6x as long without the 4in1?s (~ 8 seconds versus 50). 3Dmark 2001 was down 25% also.
