VIA Chipset and SB Live

I know this has been covered before. But I never really paid much attention before as I was on a Intel p3. But now I have a nice AMD set-up, well apart from the stuttering sounds. I have updated the drivers to the latest via and sb live and also put the card in PCI slot 2 but still no joy. Suggestions please. i am on Windows 2000 pro and can go to XP Pro if need be.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte 7ZXE.

Cheers

Usually the latest BIOS for your motherboard in conjunction with the latest 4-in-1s will cure your problem.

Yep. Also, the reason which PCI slot you use is important is that you have to check what else that slot shares with. I.E. on most VIA chipset boards with RAID, the Highpoint/Promise controller shares an IRQ with PCI #5.

I have my SBLIVE in slot 3...AFAIK it's sharing w/nothing. I don't get any stuttering at all. Unfortunately every once in a blue moon I get a BSOD while gaming w/the infamous "could not process interupt request" SBLIVE message....oh well.

On W2K, most devices share IRQ 11 anyway, BUT it still matters what slot you use. That's what I've found. YMMV. 🙂

Good golly gee whiz, if you're having problems with Win2k + SBLive, don't upgrade to WinXP!!!

I've had nothing but nightmares since running XP with my SBLive...

I'm considering going back to 2k! :|

Well, not really 😉

this is the correct procedures for installing:
install win2k without sblive
install 4 in 1 driver (latest one)
turn off comp and install sblive
install driver for sblive
reinstall 4 in 1 driver.

I have no problem at all using sblive. Used to have problem 2 years ago with the same mobo though. latest 4 in 1 driver solved the data corruption, and latest sblive problem solved the stuttering

Are the new KT400 chipsets having the same problem as I am considering doing an overhaul...

When I install XP it was sweet until the service pack screwed things up. I wiped my drive and went back to 2k and since then had the prob. Now started to look at IRQs and move things round but no joy.
