I'm helping someone upgrade from using a PCI graphics card to a 4X AGP card on their XP Home SP1 machine. The machine has a Tyan Trinity 400 S1854 mainboard with a VIA Apollo Pro 133 chipset. Do I need to install the VIA 4-in-1 drivers before I put in the new AGP card, or does XP already have full built-in support for this chipset? What about just the VIA AGP v4.30a drivers? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

that is an older chipset windows xp should have support for it, but installing the latest 4-in-1's is a good idea and won't hurt

just install the card and install the card's drivers and it should work
then if you have the time install the 4-in-1 drivers (should already be installed, even if you don't have an agp card)

- Install latest Direct X if not already
- Remove current video drivers if an uninstall is available
- change video adapter type to Standard Display Adapter (VGA)
- install new card and new video driver according to manufacturer's instructions
- install latest 4-in-1
