I have a laptop (ams tech travelpro 6000) that takes desktop cpus (bought it on anandtech, thread is here). when i got it, there was a Celeron 466 PPGA cpu in there. i updated the bios with the newest revision and i put in a via c3 900 mhz chip (.13 micron, 100 mhz fsb, ezra core). I put this in knowing that the fsb could go up to 100 mhz, because this motherboard (mitac 6120) could support pentium III 600's. so i put the new chip in, and the computer booted up. in the bootup screen, the computer said 'Pentium II 0 Mhz' where it says the cpu name. it booted up really slowley, and everthing went very very slow, it couldnt even smoothly play the windows startup music. i ran belarc, and under processer it said '900 megahertz IDTPentium II' and the bus clock was 100 mhz. i have no idea why its running so slow, it feels more like 100 mhz then 900 mhz. any ideas?

Maybe your motherboard simply will not support the C3 processor. Just replace it with a genuine Intel.

have you checked banchmarks on the cpu, maybe it just isn't suited for the job, sometimes more mhz doesn't mean more performance (this is just a guess though, I haven't heard much either way on this processor) compare benchmarks and if yours are low, maybe someone can turn up a reason?

Yeah, some of these older boards will fit a C3 but not fully support it, you may need something later than a BX style board.

But then again....It's baffling because it supports PIII's.

Interesting that it calls it an IDT Processor...Does the manufacturer website mention C3's at all? Anything at www.viatech.com?
