Hi. I have an Iwill KK266 motherboard (V1.1) and have two questions related to issues with the VIA KT133A chipset:
1) Regarding the VIA 4-in-1 Drivers, I've read on the Internet that if you're using Win98SE you should only install the AGP GART driver and the IRQ Routing Driver since the IDE Bus Mastering Drivers tend to cause problems (reduced hard drive and/or CD/DVD-ROM performance). (Note: The INF file apparently is okay to install but not needed since it's already part of Win98SE.) Is this old info based on older VIA drivers/chipsets used with Win98SE? Is it okay now to use the latest entire 4-in-1 driver package (4.28 or 4.29) as is?
2) I've also read on the Internet that USB devices may not work in Windows 98SE if you're using a VIA USB controller. Apparently the USB controller conflicts with other devices it shares an IRQ with, thus rendering certain PCI slots useless if you want to use USB. This problem is also mentioned in the following Microsoft Knowlege Database entry: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q240/0/75.ASP
Once again, is this old news? Do I need to install the Microsoft patch shown on that page (240075up.exe)? Does the VIA USB 1.08 Filter Driver address the problem?
I'm just looking for the official word on these two issues.
Thanks in advance for any help.
